Cindy Ann Armstrong

April 2, 1957 - December 21, 2011

Cindy Ann (Armstrong) Townsend's battle with lung cancer ended on Wednesday December 21, 2011.

Cindy was born in St. Paul, MN to Jeanette (Behl) Armstrong and Verlyn Armstrong on April 2, 1957. She graduated from Stillwater High School (MN) in 1974 (one year early) and worked a variety of jobs over the years including secretarial, waitressing, apartment caretaker, bartender, school bus driver and truck driver while raising her two sons, Joel and Tyler, her “greatest pride and joy”.

Most recently, she was employed by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls as a custodian in the Fine Arts Building. She often declared it was her Cindy Ann Armstrongfavorite job. She loved the interaction with the students and enjoyed the people she worked with, forging many lasting friendships on campus.

Cindy loved riding her Suzuki 800 motorcycle, bargain shopping, birthday club with her girlfriends, gardening, feeding and watching birds, and spending time with family. In recent years she developed a real talent for making jewelry and her work is enjoyed by many family members and friends. She loved traveling and went to Germany, Australia, and New Zealand. In the last two years she traveled to the Grand Canyon with her mother and to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons with her mother and sister Kim LeMere (“my little Sherpa”).

Cindy is preceded in death by grandparents Rosaline and Paul Behl, Pearl and Jess Armstrong, and sister-in-law Nancy Brenner. She is survived by sons Joel Townsend of Reston, VA and Tyler Townsend of River Falls, WI, mother Jeanette Armstrong (Garth Jordan) of Osage, IA, father Verlyn Armstrong (Cyndy Peterson) of River Falls, WI. Sisters Kim (Paul) LeMere of Barlett, IL, Tracy (Vince) Cesari of Chisholm, MN, Amy Armstrong of River Falls, WI, and brothers Todd Armstrong of Eau Claire, WI, and Quinn Armstrong of Williston, ND; several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, a host of cousins and many friends.
